Fighting Disease

The Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea, like all Rotary clubs across the globe, has contributed extensively to polio eradication efforts worldwide. Our club often hosts events to build understanding about polio as well as raise funds. Several club members have participated on National Immunization Days where they administer the polio vaccine to children.

The Food Rescue Project recovers and redistributes fresh food to food insecure communities in the Greater Victoria area. The Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea proudly partners with all Rotary Clubs of Greater Victoria, the Victoria Foundation, the Food Share Network and several participating grocery stores to work together to reduce hunger in our communities.

All children should have access to effective oral healthcare. The Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea has been a longtime supporter of ORCCA Dental Clinic, a Sidney-based society that provides children from low-income families access to oral care.

Our club has worked with the Saanich Peninsula Hospitals Foundation on several occasions to address needs in local hospitals. Recently the Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea has funded room furniture and decorations for palliative care wards, as well as the purchase of imaging equipment.

Our Rotary club has supported Jeneece Place with funding for furnishings, equipment and other things to support its mission to provide a home for children and their families while the children receive medical care in Victoria.

Our club provided wheelchairs to those in need in Guatamala. Several club members travelled to distribute the wheelchairs in partnership with a number of Rotary clubs from around the world.

In response to a urgent need for multiparametric monitoring equipment identified by the Seara do Bem Children’s Hospital in Otacilio Costa, Brazil, the Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea partnered with the Rotary Club of Lages North to provide the equipment for children admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit. The value of this project was approximately $18,000 USD.

Responding to a need from the Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children (APEA) in Otacilio Costa, Brazil, the Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea provided a hydrotherapy pool, hot water boiler and patient lift for the organization’s facility. APEA supports individuals with intellectual disabilities. The value of this project was approximately $15,000 USD.

The Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea has supported an ongoing relationship with Mercy Ships Canada. Our club has supported the purchase of specialized training for a facial surgeon and operating room equipment (valued at $105,000 USD), among other projects.
